Lotte Jacobi was an American photographer who immigrated to the United States in an attempt to escape her home of Nazi, Germany. Her subjects included Albert Einstein, Robert Frost, Eleanor Roosevelt, and many other iconic figures. Lotte traveled around with her equipment, going from place to place, bringing her studio to them. Lotte became interested in the current “modernist” artistic photographic techniques. A lot of her images are of live dance performances, most likely because of her love for dance and theatre. She was known to wait until her subject was at ease before begining in order to create a natural, and powerful image. She revealed the inner being of people, and prized this more "humanized" aspect of photography.
Autumn De Wilde is an American photographer best known for her
portrait and commercial work with musicians. She had no formal training, only the knowledge of photography passed on from her father. There are a few portraits that caught my eye, but not because of flashy colours or use of design elements. Something that I have vary rarely seen done well are portraits that consist of a series of photographs. The one featured below (centre) captures the raw emotion of this person's expression. Her pictures have a great range; from fun, bubbly, and colourful, to raw, dark, and serious. Autumn's subjects are transformed by her work to create a unique and, a very "different" look. She gives these portraits life through her direction behind the camera, and her artistic eye.
